Surprisingly
for a country that is mostly desert, some og the more interesfting
Turkmen dishes are vegetarian. Herd-filled pastries are common in
the markets. Cornmeal pancakes and breads are a change of pace from
Turkmen chorek or flat-bread. Porrodges made with either mung
beans (mashishulye); cornmeal and pumpkin; or rice, milk &
katyk, can make a decent meal. Spinach or pumpkin pie, called kutab,
is a decent snack. The Turkmen make a tasty meatless plov with dried
fruit.
Meat dishes tend to be big on fat. Gouk is a round flat bread
with mutton fat, kuurma is lamb cooked in its own fat, and
the local shashlyk and lyulya kebab (seasoned minced
lamb) literally drip with the stuff.
A delightful alternative is fresh fish from the Caspian Sea - the
smoked sturgeon is delicious.
Normally, DN TOURS prefers to suggest meal board (breakfast, lunch
& dinner) & include into tour package.
However, there is some tourists who prefer to have either half board
or full board being in Turkmenistan on the tour.
Usually we try to offer foreign travelers the variety range of cuisine
such as:
-European cuisine
-Turkish cuisine
-Russian cuisine
-Iranian cuisine
-Turkmen cuisine.
Besides, the latter cuisine is always offered during the Farewell
Dinner at National House with Folk Show in Ashgabat. This is most memorable
event for our guests as they not only taste national food, drink either
national wine or vodka but listen to the folk music & see the bright
& temperamental songs & participate in Turkmen games. Please believe
us you'll spend your enjoyable time & have a delicious traditional
Turkmen & other differentiated orient cuisine.
