Mary velayat is located in a southeast part of Turkmenistan on lowland
Turanskoj, within the limits of desert Kara Kum. An administrative
centre of velayat - city Mary. For scientists territory of Turkmenistan
is " archeological paradise " because this ground abounds
the ancient barrows hiding inside ruins of ancient cities. Mary velayat
takes completely special place by quantity {*amount*} of such barrows
- fortresses which have become swollen under influence of time are
numerous manors of medieval feudal lords, and especially impress among
them Big and Small Gyzkala.
Some cities, being capitals of Ancient Merv in different millennia,
make a reserved historical architectural zone of a modern Bairamali
century, taking place under protection of the state, among them the
Sultan - kala (IX-XII centuries), Gyaur-kala (III century up to AD
VIII-IX century), Erk-kala (I century up to AD), Abdullahan-kala (XV
century) and Bairamalihan-kala (XVIII century). Certainly, the most
important sight of Merv is the mausoleum of Sultan Sandjar (1118-1157).
Almost 100 km are separated modern Bairamali, where also there is
one of the most known medical and rest resort in Turkmenistan, from
one of the most ancient on the Earth of civilizations, under assumptions
of modern historians (academician V.Sarianidi), by the right applying
on occurrence in the four of the ancient cultural world{*global*}
centers, alongside with Egypt, Mesopotamia, China and India. The country
Margush or Margiana (Gonur-depe) (II-I one thousand up to AD) - was
well-known to the Ancient world the highest level of art and material
culture.
